| Company Introduction | Creators of contemporary Rioja since 1989. Located in the center of Samaniego, Álava, at Remírez de Ganuza we craft contemporary Rioja wines. The winery owns 80 hectares of vineyards. These consist of 70 estates formed from more than 200 plots across 9 municipalities on the foothills of the Sierra Cantabria: Labastida, San Vicente de la Sonsierra, Ábalos, Samaniego, Leza, Elciego, Navaridas, Laguardia, and Elvillar. Since our beginnings we have been characterized by revolutionizing some of the traditional methods in the area, introducing improvements both in the vineyard and in winemaking. One of the most notable systems is to separate the Tempranillo bunches into two parts. The shoulders, with perfect phenolic ripeness, are used for the wines with more aging potential, such as the Remírez de Ganuza Reserva and Gran Reserva, while the tips are used for the young carbonic maceration wine, like Erre Punto. At Remírez de Ganuza, every detail matters: the harvest, carried out вручally in 12 kg crates; the meticulous grape selection; the respect shown to the fruit throughout the winemaking process; hygiene standards that border on obsession; and long ageing in new oak barrels, predominantly French. No bottle of Remírez de Ganuza is released to the market without extended ageing in our cellars. We believe that only time allows the wine to develop the character and style we seek as winemakers.
